August 16 Wahoo fishing is starting to get cranked up. We had a marlin fishing trip today and caught a huge white marlin, probably the biggest I've ever caught. A couple of the other boats went wahoo fishing and did very well. Still have plenty of openings and I'm still hoping to get the Beaufort Offshore Classic booked on Labor Day weekend.
August 11 The Beaufort Offshore Classic is a new billfish tournament that will be held on the 28-30 of August. It seems like is will be a fun tournament with a chance of winning some money. I'm trying to get a crew together to fish it, if interested please give me a call. We won 1st Place in the Ducks Unlimited Tournament the weekend before last and won 1st Place in the Charter Boat Division in the Barta Tournament in July, so I feel pretty good about our chances in this one.
August 5 There is another great looking eddy moving up the coast. The marlin and the wahoo fishing should get hot through next week. Still have this coming weekend open and next weekend also.
August 3 We got a crew put together for the Ducks Unlimited Tournament this weekend and it paid off. We won 1st place with 2 sailfish on Friday and a sailfish and a blue marlin on Saturday. Still plenty of marlin left out there and we have plenty of days open.
July 27 The billfishing is good. We are getting several shots a day right now. We have caught 5 sailfish in the past two days. Still open for the DU tournament this weekend, or normal charters for that matter.
July 21 It will be Wednesday before we get to go fishing, but the water shot looks awesome. Tuesday is our next open day, and the eddy should still be in range. If you want to catch billfish, this is the time to do it. Below is the shot, notice the light green circle surrounded by red. That is the marlin mecca.
July 20 We fished the Barta Billfish Tournament this weekend. Even though the go od marlin water hadn't yet made its way up the coast yet, we did catch a Sailfish on Friday. It was only one fish, but it was good enough to win 1st place in the charter boat division. The tropical storm should be gone in another day or so and we'll be back to fishing.
Lookig at the satilite shot. Sunday and Monday should be excellent days for marlin fishing. The cool water eddy that is moving up the coast looks even better than the one we were fishing in this past Sunday. That day yielded 2 blue marlin, 3 white marlin, and a sailfish. The weather report is looking very calm. Give me a call and lets go fishing. July 17 Finally get to go fishing again tomorrow. We are fishing the Barta Tournament in Beaufort on Friday and Saturday, but we have Sunday open. The marlin fishing is hot right now along with some wahoo and dolphin around. Here are some pics from Sunday's unforgettable day with Mark. There are more on the photo page. For some reason this is all I can fit on this page.
July 13 Grand Slam!!!!!!! The billfish bite is going off. Today, 2 Blue Marlin, 3 White Marlin and 1 Sailfish. We had a bite out of another Blue, pulled off 2 Whites, and missed another Sail. Hot fishing, actually as good as it gets. Mark Jordan of Wales, South Africa chartered the boat all by him self today and had the trip of a lifetime, even if you had had six guys. His arm is plenty sore tonight.
July 11 The wahoo bite is starting to get good and the dolphin are still around. The billfishing is also getting cranked up. We have been getting at least a couple of bites out the billfish everyday.
June 26 The dolphin fishing is pretty good right now. We are still catching some big ones and a lot of bailer size dolphin. The wahoo bite is starting to pick up also. Last year some of our best wahoo fishing was in July. The billfishing is getting cranked up. The sails and whites are starting to make an appearance. Have plenty of days open in July.
June 20 Sorry about the delay on reports. During the Big Rock we caught a really nice blue marlin, but he lacked a few pounds of making third place, so we let him go. We jumped off a money winner the next day and caught a white. Since then we have been doing well with the dolphin fishing.
June 2 I have three people who want to put together a make-up trip on the 16, 17, or 18th of June. Looking for two or three more people to split the trip with. Give me a call and we will discuss the details. May 30 The weather was great and so was the fishing. Lots of big dolphin today. The marlins bit for a little while, but unfortunately we didn't catch one. The good thing is there are a good sign of them and the Big Rock is coming up soon. We have Monday through Wednesday open if you want to fill the freezer with meat before they are gone.
May 29 Plenty of gaffer dolphin around. We're catching all of them you want. Lots of blue marlin also. Now is the hottest fishing of the year, give me a call, we still have open days.
May 22 Finally got my website software working again. The fishing right now is great. Plenty of the big gaffer dolphins around. There are also some scattered wahoo along with a lot of blue marlin. We've been getting a shot at a marlin about every other trip.
April 22 Fuel has reached $3.90 per gallon and is expected to rise even higher. I hate to charge more, but we are forced to charge an additional $100 surcharge for fuel.
April 11 The weather finally let us get offshore again. The fishing was great. We filled the box with Yellowfin Tuna, Blackfin Tuna, Wahoo, Dolphin, and King Mackerel. The great spring fishing is here. We still have open days, so give me a call.
April 1 I have not been able to access my site for a few days, but we finally got it fixed. We finally managed to get offshore on Friday. Once again, the warm water was pushed way offshore. Cold green water covered the break so we fished all day in the deep again. We did manage to catch a couple of nice yellowfins. A little while later, low and behold, we hooked and caught a blue marlin. Not bad, the first trip of the year on the Impulse, and 1 blue marlin.
March 14 Finally got to go fishing today. I went as mate for a friend of mine. Cold green water covered the tuna grounds, so we went to the deep. We had a 300 pound blue marlin on the teaser, but wouldn't switch off. Then this afternoon we caught a double header of sailfish. Finally at the end of the day we put a nice wahoo in the box.
March 2 The boat is back in the water and the tuna are here. Yellowfins, blackfins, and 60-100 lb bluefins.
Feb 25 We have been giving the boat a new paint job and it looks better than it ever has. The boat will be back in the water on Friday. Only a few small projects to be done after she floats and we will be ready for the Yellowfins. Its been a long winter and we are very anxious to get back in the blue water. Give me a call and lets go fishing.
Feb 1 Due to the outrageous fuel prices, I'm sad to say that the price of our offshore trips will now be $1500. I've held out as long as I could on the increase and will try to keep our rates at an affordable price. The price of the deposit will now be $500 also. We will be hauling the boat out on Monday for a paint job and regular maintance. We will be back in the water and fishing by mid March. Can't wait to catch some yellowfins. April and May are starting to get booked up, so call soon to get in on the best fishing of the year. Here is a picture from the end of last April.
January 15 For some reason I have not been able to update my site for almost a month now. We are catching some Bluefin Tuna. The bite has been pretty inconsistant, but it seems to be getting better. We have caught a few really nice ones. The picture below is a 600 pounder. March and April are starting to fill up so if you want to catch the Yellowfins, call soon to get a spot.
November 19 Well, we ended up getting offshore one more time on Saturday. Luckily, the fishing was just as we had left it. We ended up with 12 good sized blackfin tunas, 4 wahoos, 6 kings, and topped it off with 4 sailfish. We are supposed to go again this coming Sunday. Bluefin tunas are starting to show up also and we will start fishing for them after Thanksgiving.
November 14 Well the offshore season is coming to an end. All and all it was a good year of fishing, and we added another tournament victory to the books. Richard and myself want to thank everyone who fished with us and hope to do it again next year. The giant bluefin tunas should start showing up very soon. If anyone is interested in catching one of these small Volkswagons, give me a call and I will put you on the list. Also I am now booking trips for next year. The weekends in April and May are almost full, so book now.
November 5 Speckled trout are snapping. We are catching limits of them with some of the fish in the 4-7 pound range. We have one offshore trip remaining on the books for Saturday. There are still some wahoo around so give me a call for offshore or inshore small boat trout trips. The rate for 2 people inshore is $300. We usually fish for 4-5 hours or our limit, which ever comes first.
October 31 The wind has kept us at the dock for over a week. There still should be some wahoos and sailfish around. The speckled trout are starting to bite inshore. I'm now booking trips on my small boat for fall trout and drum fishing.
October 10 We've had some great fishing lately. Good catches of wahoo have been the norm. The sailfish have been around in good numbers also. We have been averaging one just about every day and caught 3 on Sunday.
October 1 The wind has kept us to the dock for several days now. Looks as if it will be Wednesday before we get to continue wacking the wahoos. October is filling up but I still have some days open the last two weeks. Also I am now booking light tackle speckled trout and drum trips on my small boat for November and December.
Sept 22 Limits of wahoo with sailfish mixed in. Got a few days in October, including the 13th which is Saturday, not Friday that just got cancelled.
Sept 15 Excellent wahoo fishing. Catching from 8-15 wahoos a day along with 2 or more shots at sailfish. The wahoo fishing should only improve from now through the end of October.
Sept 1 Better late than never. The billfish bite is finally going off. July was okay with one or two here and there, but the past few days has been great. Today we caught a blue marlin and 2 sailfish. Then we hooked a pair of whites that would have finished off the slam, but somehow in the rough 5-6 foot seas, managed to pull off both of them.
August 13 We are still having a consistent wahoo bite and catching billfish on a regular basis. With the sign of wahoos we have had over the past month and a half the fall should be excellent. September and October are starting to fill up, so call now and get in on the hot fall fishing.
July 29 The wahoo bite is going off. We have been averaging anywhere from 8 to 12 wahoos a day along with a very consistent sailfish bite. Today we caught 10 wahoos, 3 sailfish, and a gaffer dolphin.
July 14 Plenty of dolphin and wahoo around. Billfish have been biting pretty regularly also.
June 24 The meat fishing was a little bit slower today. We ended up with around 15 dolphins with half of them being gaffers and the other half small ones. Being the fishing was slow we went to the deep in search of billfish. It didn't take long before we caught a white marlin. We also seen a couple of sailfish that didn't get hooked. We had a cancellation for Sunday, July 1 if anyone is interested.
June 23 It was good to be back in the ocean again. The past two days at the dock seemed like an eternity. The weather was beautiful and the fishing was okay. We managed to scrap up eight or ten dolphins, four wahoos, a couple of kings, and top it off with a blue marlin that would go at least 450 pounds. Awesome fish that put on the best aerial show of the year. Should have some good pictures soon. The marlin fishing is getting good, need some people who want to catch them. Call me now!
June 20 Despite the nasty weather the dolphin fishing was pretty good today. We ended up with 18 gaffers. This afternoon we had an encounter with a very large blue marlin. We hooked him on a 50 wide and chased him as hard as we could for 25 minutes. Finally I'm sad to say he got all of our 550 yards of 80 pound line. It was something to see. That is the only time I've ever been completely dumped.
June 18 We've been busy with the Big Rock and all the preparations for it. Anyway to sum up the tournament, we pulled off a 500 pounder the first day after about 20 minutes of fighting him. We have been back to charter fishing the past couple of days. We're still catching some gaffer dolphins and a few wahoos. The billfish are starting to show up pretty good. We released a sailfish each of the past few days and hooked a couple more we didn't get. From now through the end of July will should be very good billfishing, with multiple fish days becoming regular very soon.
June 4 Thursday, Friday, and Saturday were all good days of fishing. Each day we had good catches of gaffer dolphins and a few wahoos. On Thursday we released another sailfish. The wind has kept us at the dock the past couple of days. The weather should allow us to fish again on Wednesday.
May 30 Gaffer dolphins are still biting good. The past couple of days we have caught 15-20 of them. Today we also caught a couple of nice wahoos and 4 king mackerel.
May 27 Blue marlins are liking the Impulse these days. We fished the Swansboro Tournament this weekend, and on Saturday we released a blue marlin in the 400 pound range and had another on the teaser that wouldn't eat. On Sunday we released a blue marlin about 250 pounds and seen another one. We won the tournament with the two releases. Today we were back to meat fishing. We had a good catch of dolphin, 1 wahoo, and released a sailfish. For some reason we are open on Saturday if anyone wants to go.
May 25 Dolphins if you want them, dolphins if you don't. All week has been outstanding gaffer dolphin fishing. The box has been full everyday. Still a few tuna around along with scattered wahoo. The blue marlin are here also. Today we caught a 250 pound blue and pulled off a 500 pounder. As soon as we let the one we caught go, I put the teasers back out and sped back up to trolling speed. We had no baits ready to go back in the water as everyone was still celebrating our release. At that time a 400 pound blue marlin ate the teaser 3 or 4 times, but we had nothing ready to feed to him. Fishing the Swansboro Blue Marlin Tournament the next two days, hope to keep on seeing the marlins.
May 19 Wednesday's fishing was pretty good. The catch was 30 gaffer dolphin, 1 yellowfin tuna, and three blackfin tuna. Thursday's catch was about the same, 35 gaffer dolphin, 2 wahoos, and three blackfins. Friday was too rough to fish. Saturday the fishing remained great. We caught 32 gaffer dolphin and a yellowfin. This is as good as the fishing gets. Filling the box on a day to day basis is rare. The weather looks great the next few days and the fishing shows no sign of slowing up. We have Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday open. If you want to experience non stop action all day and fill your freezer, now is the time to do it.
May 15 We fished on Friday but I didn't have time to post a report. We ran way up north to find the current edge that we fished on Thursday as it moved up the coast. The edge was there along with the grass, perfect dolphin habitat. For some reason though, the dolphin were not at home. We picked at single dolphin all day and ended up with a dozen. A lost tuna out in the deep decided to find his way back home in our box, and we were happy to give him a ride. The excitement of the day was a 150 pound mako airing out on the teaser. He tried the teaser three or four more times but would not touch a bait with a hook. Saturday was slick calm, and due to a cancellation we sat at the dock. Today, Tuesday, we fished again after being blown out for two days. The weather was great and so was the fishing. Some of my family chartered us for the day and we sent them home with plenty of meat. The dolphin were all good size, in the 12-25 pound range, and we put 25 to rest. Three tuna and a wahoo filled the box. Looking forward to another good day tomorrow. We have a few weekdays left in May.
May 10 Finally got to go fishing again. There was a big swell left over from the storm, but other than that it was a beautiful day. The dolphin fishing was good, we caught around 20 gaffer sized dolphin. This afternoon when the swell died out, we started getting a few tuna bites. We only managed to hold on to two of them, but they were nice ones in the 50 pound range. We also hooked a sailfish, but managed to pull him off also. Looks like a pretty day tomorrow and Saturday. Still have Saturday open as of right now.
May 9 It has been one windy week. Finally going fishing tomorrow. We had a last minute cancellation for this Saturday. The weather looks great and the fishing should be also. Give me a call at 252-725-0544.
May 5 Fridays fishing was nothing like Thursdays. The conditions had turned a 180 on us. There was no grass, no current, and few dolphin. We caught 9 gaffer dolphins, 1 king mackerel, and our first white marlin of the year. The marlin did make the slow fishing a lot more tolerable. The fishing Saturday was much better. Our party enjoyed cranking on about 20 gaffer dolphin, 3 wahoos, and 2 tunas in the 50-60 pound range. We had several more tuna bites but didn't manage to hold onto them. Looks like the weather will keep us at the dock for at least the next three days.
May 3 The gaffer dolphin finally showed up today and in full force I might add. We kept our crowd and my mate plenty busy this morning. By 12:30 we had caught 45 gaffer dolphin (15-40 pounds each) and 9 wahoo. Since we had all of the boxes on the boat full of fish, we decided to go marlin fishing. We did not see any marlins, but we did catch a nice mako to top off the day. Our party was plenty happy with over 750 pounds of fish.
April 28 The ride out this morning was no fun. The southwest wind yesterday and last night left a big swell this morning. Luckily once we made it out, the sea conditions improved drastically. We ended up with a pretty good catch and everyone was happy. The catch for today was 7 nice yellowfin tuna and 5 or 6 good sized dolphin.
April 26 The tuna have been scarce the past few days, but the dolphin and wahoo have taken up the slack. Some of the wahoo have been nice ones too. Caught a 58.5 pounder on Tuesday. Today we did manage to find some tuna. We caught 8 of them along with a couple of wahoo and one dolphin.
April 22 On Saturday we fished the Calcutta Wahoo Challenge. Despite slow fishing we managed a decent catch. We finished fourth place in the tournament with a 39 pound wahoo. A couple of nice tuna gave everyone a nice dinner, but the best part of the day was a 300 pound blue marlin that we released. It's always good to catch the first marlin of the year early in the spring. Hopefully its a sign of things to come.
April 18 Windy, windy, windy, and windier. That is the report.
April 13 Finally got to go offshore again. The weather was pretty sloppy this morning, but the conditions improved drastically as the day progressed. The tuna didn't mind the rough seas and bit pretty well this morning. We ended up with 13 tuna (all within the 35-55 pound range), 1 wahoo, and 1 king mackerel. Looks as if we will get one more day of fishing in before the big storm moves in for a few days.
April 12 The bad weather has kept us to the dock for the past couple of days. Looks as if we might try to make tomorrow.
April 10 Cold green water covered the tuna grounds, so we had to fish way out in the deep. Although we were disappointed the tuna were not biting, we sucked it up and went dolphin fishing. We ended up catching 10 good sized dolphin and a couple of wahoo. It looks like the wind is going to disrupt our fishing for the next several days.
April 8 Despite cold and breezy conditions we managed to slip offshore for a little fishing. It felt more like January than April but we did catch 7 tuna, 1 wahoo (42 pounds), and a king mackerel. We fish again on Tuesday.
April 7 Forty knots of wind kept us to the dock today.
April 6 The weather was a little rough today, but the tuna cooperated. The catch for today was 12 yellowfin tuna, 1 wahoo, and 2 dolphin. The tuna fishing is getting cranked up now and should remain fairly consistant for a few more weeks. We have a hand full of weekday's open.
April 3 The full moon is finally coming to an end. The tuna finally decided to bite a little bit today. We had a good catch of tuna with the biggest coming in at 67, 65, and 60 pounds. A few dolphins and a wahoo sweetened up the catch a little too. Still have next Tuesday and Wednesday open.
April 2, 2007 The weather was great this weekend, but the fishing slowed down a bit. There were so many boats fishing it was hard to get alone and catch some fish. Only a few tuna, wahoo, and some dolphin to report. Fishing should improve this week. March 24, 2007 The tuna fishing is starting to pick up. Today we caught 8 yellowfin tunas in the 35-45 pound range, 3 smaller blackfin tunas, and 4 nice wahoo. We still have a few weekdays available in April so call now and get in on the action. |
